Automotive service technicians and auto mechanics typically do the following:

  • Make sure all parts and systems are functioning properly

  • Lubricate and test the engine and other major components of the motorcycle
  • Maintain the basic care and maintenance of the vehicle
  • Replace or repair worn parts
  • Capable of the disassembly and reassembly of parts

  • Explains to their ?clients what their automotive problems are and the repairs done on their motorcycles

Motorcycle Mechanic School and Training

Attending high school courses in small engine repair, mathematics, electronics, and computers provide a great background for future service technicians and motorcycle mechanics. Vocational programs and trade schools are still great avenues for entry level employment. Motorcycle mechanic programs usually are six months to a year in length and do provide excellent career preparation. The courses usually include classroom instruction and practice.

Some examples of skills that will be obtained in motorcycle mechanic training are replacing ignition parts, valves and spark plugs. Far beyond that, at the end of the training, you will be confident enough and competent enough to handle most issues that come your way as a motorcycle mechanic.
